Patriotic Cherries FAQs
Do cherries soak up alcohol?
Yes. Wait for the boozy cherries in a cool, dark place.
The longer they soak, the more infused the fruit becomes and the more color leaches into the vodka, turning it a deep crimson color. I recommend soaking for at least two weeks.
Is it healthy to eat maraschino cherries?
Yes. They are high in fiber, vitamin C, iron, potassium, and vitamin A, but have no added sugar and only 97 calories per cup.
Is cherry fruit or not?
Yes. Cherry is a fleshy drupe that grows on many plants in the Prunus genus (stone fruit).
Cultivars of several species, including the sweet Prunus avium and the sour Prunus cerasus, are used to produce commercial cherries.
Are maraschino cherries real cherries?
Yes. Maraschino cherries are regular cherries that have been transformed.
They've been preserved, bleached, dyed, and sugar-sweetened.
Is there alcohol in maraschino cherries?
None. They're quite sweet and contrary to popular belief, there's no alcohol in them.
