Tips & Tricks

  • I recommend chilling your copper mugs in the freezer for a few minutes before serving. This will keep your Moscow Mule icy cold longer.
  • Gently stir, don't shake your Moscow Mule. Stirring is sufficient to mix the ingredients. Shaking could over-dilute the drink and lessen the ginger beer's effervescence.
  • Add a Creative Twist with Flavored Vodka. Experiment with flavored vodkas like citrus or vanilla for a unique twist on the classic Moscow Mule.
  • If the cocktail is too strong, add a bit more ginger beer; if too mild, increase the vodka or lime juice slightly.
  • Leave some space at the top of the mug after pouring in your ingredients. This prevents spilling and allows the flavors to mingle effectively.
  • The ginger beer is the star of this cocktail, so opt for a brand that's rich and spicy to give your Moscow Mule the right kick.

FAQs about Moscow Mule Cocktail

While not absolutely necessary, a copper mug is traditional and enhances the experience. It keeps the drink colder for longer and some say it even improves the taste.

A slice of lime and a sprig of mint are traditional garnishes. They add a fresh aroma and a subtle flavor to the drink, enhancing the overall experience.

It's best to prepare Moscow Mules right before serving. Preparing them in advance can lead to a loss of carbonation and dilution from melted ice, affecting the quality of the drink.

Notes

Real lime juice is definitely the way to go.
Juicing your own limes is the best choice, but not all of us have time to do that, so getting pure lime juice is a great choice.
Pouring the ingredients in the order given in the directions allows it to self-mix.
However, sometimes I like to give it a little stir so the ice chills it a bit quicker.
Everyone has a different preference.
It’s best to drink this immediately.
If not, the ice will melt and completely water it down.
So, this isn’t a great recipe for a make ahead option.
