Equipment

  • Hand mixer with beaters and whisk attachments
  • Measuring spoons and cups

  • 1M star piping tip piping tip
  • Purple gel food color
  • Teal gel food color
  • Charcuterie Board (9.5 inches by 13 inches works best)

Ingredients

  • 8 ounce Full-fat cream cheese block
  • 4 sticks Salted butter
  • 2 lbs Confectionary sugar
  • 1 tbsp Vanilla extract
  • Graham Crackers
  • Pretzels
  • Shortbread Cookies
  • Mini Oreos
  • Cheese Crackers
  • Strawberries
  • Marshmallows
  • Sprinkles

Instructions

Step 1: Prep the Butter Cream

  • In a mixing bowl cream together the vanilla, cream cheese, and butter until smooth.
  • Add half the powdered sugar, and it fold into the butter to prevent the sugar from spraying when mixing.
  • Add the other half powdered powder sugar, using the hand mixer or stand mixer, and mix the ingredients until smooth. It’s ok to mix for 2 to 3 minutes or as long as needed to make sure it’s smooth.
  • Divide the buttercream into 2 separate bowls, and add the food gel to each.
  • Mix each until well incorporated.
  • Cut a small hole at the end of the piping bag, drop the piping tip in, and add a small amount, alternating each color.

Step 2: Spread the Butter

  • Start about 2 inches from the top of the board, and evenly spread a thin layer of the buttercream onto the chopping board, ensuring the thickness is consistent.
  • Once done, use a knife to carefully shape the outline of the tail, creating an even edge.
  • Then start piping a single line from top to bottom following the design with a slight back-and-forth motion to make a ruffle, ripple effect, using the piping bag with the 1M tip.
  • Gradually decrease the size as you move down.
  • Once at the bottom, fan out to the fin the same way.
  • Add sprinkles and edible glitter for flare.

Step 3: Assemble, Serve, and Enjoy

  • You will have extra cream cheese left which can be served separately or adding more to the board as it's consumed.
  • Surround the “tail” with graham crackers, Oreos, pretzel rods or pretzel knots, strawberries, marshmallows, cheese crackers, or any shortbread cookie.
  • Store the butter board in the refrigerator without the treats until ready to serve.
  • Remove 30 minutes to an hour prior to serving and add the treats so your treats aren't cold!
