German Spaetzle

German Spaetzle dumplings on a plate
This is a delicious recipe for Geman Spaetzle, it is also known as German egg noodle dumplings. Spaetzle is a small, soft dumpling/pasta that is a versatile dish that can be used for many different dishes.  It can be served plain or sautéed in a little bit of butter. They are the perfect side dish for this Swedish Meatball recipe!

Ingredients

  • 2 cup flour
  • 6 eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ cup butter
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley + extra for garnish
  • ½ tsp nutmeg

Instructions

  • Combine flour, nutmeg, and parsley.
  • Lightly beat eggs.
  • Mix together eggs, milk, and flour.
  • Let batter rest for 30 minutes or more.
  • Bring water to a boil.
  • Pour a cup of batter into the colander and forced through holes with a
  • spatula over boiling water. Small elongated drops will boil and rise to the
  • top where you can use a slotted spoon to remove and place in a bowl.
  • Heat a skillet over medium-high with butter. Fry the spaetzle for 5 minutes
  • or until golden.
  • Garnish with parsley. Serve with Swedish Meatballs and Gravy.
